All Windows Server 2012 evaluation versions are fully functional during the evaluation period, although booting to Safe mode is not available.
After the 180-day evaluation period elapses, the server warns in various ways depending on the edition (Windows Server 2012 Standard; Windows Server 2012 Datacenter):
- The following warning appears on the Desktop: Windows License is expired
- When you log on to Windows, you are prompted with the following options:
- Activate now
- Ask me later
- The system shuts down every hour.
- The only updates that can be installed are security updates.
Windows Server 2012 Essentials: you receive warnings on the Desktop and on the dashboard, but the server does not shut down.
Most evaluation versions can be converted to full retail versions, but the method varies slightly depending on the edition.
- If the server is a domain controller, you cannot convert it to a retail version. In this case, install an additional domain controller on a server that runs a retail version and remove AD DS from the domain controller that runs on the evaluation version. - Read the license terms.
- From an elevated command prompt, determine the current edition name with the command DISM /online /Get-CurrentEdition. Make note of the edition ID, an abbreviated form of the edition name. Then run DISM /online /Set-Edition:<edition ID> /ProductKey:XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX /AcceptEula, providing the edition ID and a retail product key. The server will restart twice.

In Microsoft VDI environment, mostly people will use KMS for activate the client OS due to the Master OS is sysprep and the client OS will roll back after user logoff.
Once the Master copy is sysprep, the OS is shutdown and no matter the OS is activate with the license or not, sysprep will still make it unlicense.
This is how it will works.
System Admin will use the Master copy after sysprep (make sure to shutdown after perform the sysprep) to create client copy with no license activation in it. After that, system admin will use KMS activation so that whoever log in, it will search for KMS host and activate it
Sometimes error would occur in systemlog when perform DCDIAG it is because there are errors in the System Log in the Event Viewer.
If the problem is the system log is fix, you can ignore the error occur in DCDIAG or you can clear the System Log in event viewer so that it will not appear when you perform DCDIAG
If your environment is installed with Office 2010 Standard and Office 2010 Professional Plus, how should you setup your KMS for Office 2010.
If I install with Office 2010 Professional Plus, will it inculde Office 2010 Standard? Overwrite the existing KMS key?

The Office 2010 Standard and Office 2010 Professional Plus share the same KMS product key, so don’t worry about it, just install one product key will be fine.
All the while I thought that KMS need at 5 least physical to activate the server role or 25 physical client to activate the client OS but today I found out something difference.
Windows Vista SP2, Windows Server 2008 SP2, and the release of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2: Virtual computers count toward the activation threshold for KMS.
